Noir Film | Character Reference
In creating characters for an animated film always gather reference/ pegs based on descriptions. The goal is to make notes and NOT to copy. Use it as a guideline and remember to limit your research for this may eat much of your time. Story is KING. Understand the story then you'll know who your character is.

- Read the story
- Analyze character description
- Observe story moments
- Gather reference based descriptions
- Look for gestures that best describes that character
- Look for specific QUALITIES (actors with same qualities - movies, ref. from life)
